City Planning Commission on September 23, 2019 voted to destroy the East River Park mature trees, plantings, architectural features – everything – and bring in landfill to raise shoreline with a hard edge seawall – rather than the initial flood protection plan the community helped develop with a rolling hillside seawall berm – a plan that would not destroy the entire park.
The City aims to close the East River Park in entirety throughout construction for 3 1/2 years plus – denying an entire generation of youth and residents park and waterfront access.
